The Men’s Prep Basketball Team traveled to Dexter School in Boston for a game on Friday night. After a slow start, the Phoenix found their groove and were able to cut Dexter’s lead to one heading into the half. In the second half, Hyde made some adjustments and was able to contain Dexter’s 6’ 7’’ big man, who eventually fouled out. In an exciting game that came down to the last possession, Hyde fell to Dexter by three points. The Phoenix were led by Harry Smith ‘11 with 19 points and 12 assists and Jonah Alexander ’12 with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Justin Castor ‘11 also played a solid game on the defensive front, forcing several turnovers. The coaches were extremely pleased with the team’s effort against a talented Dexter team.
After a thrilling game on Friday night vs. Dexter School, the Prep Basketball Team had little time to rest as they hosted Brewster Academy on Saturday afternoon. With fine play from Harry Smith ‘11 and Ted Cercos ’11, Hyde was able to build an early 19 point lead heading into halftime. Chris Moulton ‘12 and Jonah Alexander ‘12 were able to control the boards for Hyde, each finishing with 8 and 9 rebounds respectively. Fuelled by Brewster’s shooting guard, O’Brien, who scored 26 points, Brewster was able to mount a mini comeback. However, Hyde took over in the last five minutes to secure an 18 point win. Smith ‘11 and Alexander ‘12 led Hyde with 19 points, Cercos ‘1116 points and Justin Castor ‘11 added a timely 8 points. Hyde is 3-2 heading into their winter break and look forward to carrying this momentum when they return to play New Hampton on January 7th.
