Boys 3rds Electric in Season Opener

Hyde                 44
St. Andrew’s     32

The Boys 3rds basketball team, traveled to St. Andrew’s in Rhode Island on Saturday for their season opener. No one seemed too sure of what to expect from this group, considering its numerous players with little to no basketball experience.

It took just minutes to get our answer as Hyde shot out to an 8-0 lead on great post play by Trevor Braxton “Down-Low” Bartow ’12, and solid defense and ball control by Brian (B.O.D.) O’Dea ’13. The entire team showed tremendous discipline on defense by staying in their zone and creating turnovers. When St. Andrew’s would begin a semblance of a comeback, we could always count on Apache “The Dragon” He ’12 to create a turnover, or get a tough rebound, and streak down the court for an easy bucket, swinging  momentum back to the Wolfpack. Everyone got minutes and an opportunity to contribute, and nobody disappointed, it was truly a  team effort. Our assistant coach/manager, Justen Wilson ’11 was also a key contributor in our halftime meeting, and keeping the team motivated throughout the game.

Our leading scores were He with 13pts, Bartow with 10pts and close to 15 rebounds, and O’Dea had 7pts, as well as numerous steals and assists. 9 of our 12 players scored, including our newest teammate, Ben Tatro ’12, who buried a jumper from the top of the key to seal our victory with a little over 2 minutes left in the game.

We will be traveling to Portsmouth Abbey on Wednesday with the Varsity and JV squads to play the Ravens of PA.
