Hyde – 0

Berwick Academy – 5

The Phoenix returned to Berwick for their final game of the regular season.  For the first ten minutes it appeared to be anyone’s game. Both teams were hungry for their first win and fought hard for the ball. Hyde’s mid-field looked strong, led by Kayla Sheldon ’11 and Jenna Keith ’11 while newcomer Zaji Lieberman ’12 played outstanding defense.  At the ten minute mark, Berwick scored on their first shot of the game from just off the goal line in a confused scramble.  They went on to score another on a breakaway with twenty three minutes remaining in the half.  The second period opened with Berwick ahead 2-0, and the Phoenix weren’t able to recover.  Berwick scored three more goals to end the game.  Keeper Laughlynn Bragg ’12 played well, saving several attacks with strong movement off her goal line.

MAISAD Semi-final

Hyde – 0

Kents Hill – 7

Trophy in hand, the Hyde team travelled to Kents Hill to face the number one seed in the MAISAD tournament.  It would be the third meeting for the schools this season and Hyde seemed ready to work for a different outcome.  Despite solid play from marking backs Cat Vidal ’12 and Zaji Lieberman ’12, the Huskie strikers were able to sink three goals in the first half of play, the first arriving just four minutes in.  Captain Alyssa Thomas ’11 led strongly from the backfield and was determined to continue the fight into the second half.  An unfortunate red card minutes into the second half resulted in not only a penalty kick for Kents Hill but also Hyde’s playing a person down for the remaining thirty four minutes of the game.  Kayla Sheldon ’11 packed into the defense attempting to stop the scoring.  Late scoring opportunities for Hyde came from midfielders Amy Ginsberg ’13 and captain Rachel de Molina ’11 who conintued to play strong to the final whistle.  The captains presented the trophy to Kents Hill and wished them luck in the finals on Saturday.
