Hyde – 1

Kents Hill – 5

Four days after visiting the Huskies on home ground, the women’s varsity team hosted them in Bath determined to put up a better fight.  Emilie Rose ’11 and Cat Vidal ’11 played very tough defense carrying the extra challenge of marking the Huskie’s top players.  Despite solid efforts, Kents Hill scored their first goal about 9 minutes into the half on a well struck outside shot.  They would go on to score four more before the end of the period.  Hyde’s goal came with ten minutes left to play in the first half, when Sage Harris ’11 struck a corner kick that was deflected by striker Ying Ying Tan ’11.  It was her first goal of the season.  The second half saw a much more determined Phoenix squad and though they weren’t able to net any more, they didn’t allow a single Kents Hill goal.  Sweeper Alyssa Thomas ’11 played another outstanding game with defensive help from Jenna Keith ’11 at stopper.

Hyde – 0

Gould Academy – 2

The rain soaked fields led the Phoenix to host Gould Academy on their old stomping grounds by the gym.  Both teams were eager for the game and entered missing their top strikers.  Both Sage Harris ’11 and Sarah Doyon ’11 were watching from the sidelines with concussions.  It turned out to be a even match and though Hyde was clearly out hustled in the first half it ended with a close score of 1-0.  Keeper Mali Perry ’11 was back in the net, playing a solid game with 8 saves.  The first Gould goal was shot from just outside the six by an unmarked player.  The second half trend continued and the Phoenix played with more determination.  Unfortunately, Gould was able to score again on an outside shot mid-way through the second half.  Sweeper Alyssa Thomas ’11 played a great game flanked by sophomore Mady Preece ’13.  Both center mid-fielders Cat Vidal ’11 and Kayla Sheldon ’11 contributed more aggressively to the second half of play.  It was a much improved score from their last match against Gould.
