Hyde School – 1
Williams School – 0
In a nail-biting thriller on a beautiful fall day in Woodstock, the Hyde Wolfpack edged out a 1-0 victory over a tenacious Williams squad. With a bevy of injuries, the Wolfpack found its defense vulnerable as an MCL sprain kept sweeper Ethan Thoms ’12 on the sidelines. Always ready to improvise, sophomore Graham Davidson stepped in to the central defense position and did a stellar job in helping goal keeper Brian Sanz ’11 maintain his second clean sheet of the season. The Wolfpack got on the board just 9 minutes into the game when Hyde was awarded a penalty kick after a Williams defender handled the ball. Junior striker Nathan Chesley stepped up to the penalty stripe and calmly ripped a shot into the side netting just inside the left post to give Hyde a 1-0 advantage. Despite numerous scoring opportunities for the Wolfpack, led by the speedy striker Henry Killeen ’11, they failed to find the back of the net again. The story of the day, however, was junior defender Richard Schuller who did a fantastic job stepping in for the stopper position. Schuller was tenacious and disciplined throughout the afternoon and helped the Wolfpack earn just their second shutout on the season.
As the Wolfpack continues their journey for a playoff berth, Hyde hosts conference opponent St. Andrews at 4pm on Monday, November 1, in a must-win game.
