At Hyde School
Hyde School – 0
Falmouth Academy – 2
It was a disappointing afternoon for the Hyde Girls Varsity Soccer Team, dropping another league game to SENE opponent Falmouth Academy. With strong first half play, the WolfPack could not maintain momentum for the final forty minutes of play, resulting in another loss for the team.
Though play was slightly slow in the first half, Hyde was able to maintain great possession, moving the ball through the flank in the middle third of the field, with Mari Barnett ’11 leading the charge. Using Marcy Altobello ’12 as support, the WolfPack was able to generate great offensive movement through midfield possession and crossing, though unable to capitalize on the attacks. The first half defense, led by Bryn Nolan ’12 and Hope Eldridge ’11, also excelled, preventing all of Falmouth’s threats from penetrating the 18-yard box.
Unfortunately, the momentum did not continue into the second half of play. The midfield slowed and offense was unable to generate any true impetus towards the goal. The first ten minutes of play did show promise for the WolfPack. However, Falmouth was able to catch Hyde off guard with a counter attack, playing the ball deep down the flank and finishing a cross that landed just inside the six yard line with 27:23 left on the clock. Typically unrelenting, the WolfPack did not rally back from the deficit, allowing Falmouth to possess the ball for the majority of the remaining time. Though Camryn Bindra ’13 and Eldridge continued a solid defensive effort, Falmouth was able to regenerate the play that earned its first goal to garner insurance on the scoreboard with 9:48 to play. Barnett and Altobello continued to work hard through the midfield, as did Andrea Sayegh ’12 on offense, but it was clear that the WolfPack heart was missing on the field.
Hoping to end the season respectfully, Hyde looks to improve its level of play, facing SENE opponent St. Andrew’s School on Monday November 1 at home.
