MVS Week in Review, 10/18-10/23

Hyde               6

CVA               1

On Wednesday, 10/20 MVS took the long bus ride to CVA for a conference match.  With perfect weather conditions, Hyde controlled the pace of the game and came away with an impressive 6-1 victory.  Man of the match was Wesley Freston ’11 for scoring three outstanding goals, one in the first half and two in the second half!  Jack Xu ’14 was responsible for scoring two goals, both coming in the second half.  The coaches were pleased with Jack’s performance as he was recently moved up to varsity from the Junior Varsity.  Jamal Borden ’13 controlled the midfield for Hyde and scored a first half goal.  Alec Randall ‘12 had a solid game in goal for the Phoenix, finishing the game with seven saves.  Hyde’s MAISAD record improved to 3-2-1 and 5-4-2 overall.

Hyde               1

Kents Hill        5

Hyde ran into a talented Kents Hill team on Saturday, 10/23. The Kents Hill attack was too much for Hyde as they fell to the Huskies 1-5.  KH converted a penalty kick three minutes into the match for a foul in the box. Anchored by Brendan Trometer ’11, Alex Biedermann ’11 and Nat Abernethy ‘11 the Phoenix defense was extremely active the entire match trying to contain the KH forwards.  However, their speed and precision was difficult to handle as KH scored two more goals in the first half.  Hyde made some adjustments at halftime and held KH to two goals in the second half.  Late in the game, Wilson MacMillan ’14 scored for Hyde on a well-struck shot from 18 yards out. Brendan Trometer ‘11 played inspiring soccer throughout the game.  Man of the match went to Alec Randall ’12 for his composure and finishing the game with 23 saves.  Hyde will host KH on Wednesday at 3:30PM.
