The offensive line jelled behind the leadership of senior Chip Wohlstetter and Captain Mike Perez, allowing Ashton Ghaffaar ’11 and Harry Smith ’11 (10 for 36 yards) to have their best games of the season. Phoenix defenders held the potent Bull spread offense in critical situations and stymied their excellent quarterback David Caputi enough to keep the Bulls from rallying. The first quarter saw both teams control the ball and score. The Bulls with a 15 yard TD pass from Caputi to #20 Germain Bernard for a 6 – 0 lead. The Phoenix with a 32 yard TD pass from Ted Cercos ’11 to Harry Smith ’11 putting the Phoenix up 7 – 6 as the first quarter ended.
The Bulls took the lead 7 – 12 with 1:17 to go in the half. Justin Castor caught the go ahead TD with 1 sec to go in the half and the Phoenix went into half time with the lead 14 – 12. Ghaffaar scored with a 9 yard TD run, putting the Phoenix up 20 – 12 as the third came to a close. The fourth quarter opened with another Cercos to Castor TD connection to put the Phoenix up 27 – 12. The Bulls scored as Caputi dove for a 1 yard TD run to close the gap 27 – 20. Hyde defense held on for the victory.
Hyde will host the undefeated Pingree Highlanders at home next Saturday the 30th at 2 pm.
