The Phoenix traveled to Hebron Academy on Saturday in what would be a preview of the MAISAD championship. Six teams were in attendance: Hyde, Hebron Academy, Kents Hill, Seacoast Christian, and Elan. Cross country is a sport where the lowest score wins, and the men finished with a record of 3-2 (please see bottom for complete scores). The gentlemen look forward to the return of seniors Jon Garvey and KJ Oh who missed Saturdays meet in order to take the SATs. In competition the men of Hyde witnessed many strong performances. Isaac Preston led the boys for a second time this season finishing with a time of 21:52; Jamie McCracken (22:10), Richard Stites (22:44), Matt Landry (23:42), and Jacob Leighton (24:22) rounded out Hyde’s top five scoring runners. Nick Hatch (25:55) and Elan Livnat(29:14) earned varsity spots in this race as Hyde’s displacers. Cody Gullicksen also competed for Hyde and finished with a time of 29:42.
Moving into next week the Hyde men look to cut down their pack time of 2:30. The men face an uphill battle but look to improve their team performance against the class of the MAISAD, Gould and Elan.
The Hyde women, missing numerous runners for the SAT’s ran as a non-scoring team of two. Lilly Smith led the way and finished 17th overall with a time of 30:46. Carrie Basch demonstrated her growth as a runner in nearly matching her first time of the season on a much more daunting course (36:08). The ladies look to the return of their full squad and varsity competition in the weeks ahead.
Men’s Score: Gould 35, Elan 41, Hyde 98, Hebron Academy 119, Kents Hill 119, Seacoast 120.
