At Marianapolis Preparatory School
Hyde School – 2
Marianapolis – 0
On a blustery fall day, the Hyde Girls Varsity Soccer Team found some great offensive momentum to secure a victory over Marianapolis Preparatory School. Even against a solid opponent, the WolfPack found its stride once again to experience success on the scoreboard.
With fairly even play in the first half of the game, Hyde worked to move the ball through the midfield and improve time of possession. Rianna Arellano ‘12, who was outstanding all game, generated great offensive momentum for the WolfPack. Just 7:40 into the game, Arellano sent a beautiful through ball, finding Bryn Nolan ’12 just outside the 18 yard box. Nolan handled the ball and finessed it past the Marianapolis keeper giving Hyde the early lead. Though Marianapolis threatened often, nearly missing the goal on numerous occasions, the Hyde defensive unit of Caitlyn Colley ’11, Marcy Altobello ’13, Gillian Weintraub ’12, and general Becca Katz ’12 was able to keep Marianapolis off the scoreboard. Fending off the threats, Hyde was able to find the back of the net once again just seconds before half time. Again an Arellano-Nolan combination, Nolan received a powerful throw-in from Arellano down the left flank. Beating her defender, Nolan made it a two goal advantage for the WolfPack.
The second half saw much more possession from Marianapolis, but the Hyde defense stayed strong and kept threats to a minimum. Though Marianapolis was able to generate several shots on goal, Katz and her defensive unit kept nearly all outside of the 18 yard box, protecting the net. As time wound down, Hyde maintained composure and tenacity on the field. Along with the defense and Arellano, the WolfPack benefitted greatly from the incredible work ethic of Andrea Sayegh ’12, as well as goalie Lara Cornelius ’11, who earned 17 saves on the day.
Improving to 3-4 for the season, the team looks to even its record, facing Falmouth Academy Wednesday October 6 in Falmouth, MA.
