Boys Varsity Soccer Bows to Marianapolis

October 4, 2010

Marianapolis – 4

Hyde – 0

The blustery fall weather took its toll on the Wolfpack today as Hyde lost to a very talented local rival Marianapolis 4-0.  Just thirty seconds into the contest, starting right back Nick Dresch ’12 left the match with a high ankle sprain that sidelined him for the remaining eighty-nine minutes.  Marianapolis did a terrific job exploiting that weakness throughout the afternoon as their striker Eric Gustaffson had his way with the Hyde defense, finishing with a hat trick and an assist.  The Wolfpack, surrendering four goals in the first frame showed their grit and tenacity by never quitting on the afternoon.  The can-do spirit of midfielders Adam Carreau ’11, Dan Weintraub ’12, and Matan Peltier ’11 helped set an impressive tone throughout the match.  Newcomer Christopher Wells ’12 saw his finest action of the season as he played tenaciously at both midfield and left back positions.  Netminder Brian Sanz had a fine day, despite the score, by turning away some ten Marianapolis scoring attemtps.  While the boys were disappointed with the result, the coaches were pleased with the team’s sportsmanship and class.

Standing at 2-4-1, the Wolfpack hits the road for a double-header to take on SENE foe Falmouth Academy this upcoming
Wednesday, October 6 and then St. Thomas More this Thursday, October 7.

Man of the Match: Adam Carreau ’11, for his heart and tenacity.
