Providence Country Day Invitational Meet
The Hyde School Boys and Girls Cross Country teams travelled to Providence Country Day for an invitational on September 22, 2010. The girls competed against Williams, Marianapolis, PCD, and Lincoln, and the boys competed against Williams, Marianapolis, PCD, Lincoln, Rocky Hill, and St. Thomas More. As their second meet of the season, both teams gained greater confidence and understanding for the sport during this invitational, seeing their hard work pay off through new personal records.
The girls cross country team worked hard to improve their pack mentality during the PCD meet. Led by Lori Allen ’11 and Laura Leonard ’11, the girls pulled together to improve their times and their placing. Leonard and Allen both obtained personal records, lowering their times by a minute from the previous race. Additionally, Gabby Bergeron ’13 and Katheryne Mehiel ’13 made a strong showing, utilizing their competitiveness to pass girls later in the race and to also obtain personal records. Barbara Zimmer ’11 was the star for the girls’ team during the PCD meet; taking three and a half minutes off of her time, Barbara inspired her teammates through her tenacity and toughness. Overall, the girls’ team placed fourth in the meet with a score of 88 points.
Facing a number of challenging teams, the boys’ team continued to show their determination, competitive spirit, and grit through solid performances all around. Mac McGuire ’11 was the star of the meet for the boys’ team, medaling with a seventh place finish after breaking through the 20 minute barrier with a time of 19:57. Addison Wheat ’11 and Zach Cerame ’10 followed his lead, placing 14th and 25th respectively, with times of 21:19 and 22:19. Rounded out by great runs from Tucker Mara ’11 and Kenrick Vincent ’12, the boys team also placed fourth overall, scoring 104 points.
