Hornets Sting the Phoenix Football Squad

Phoenix – 0
Proctor Academy – 35

After a long bus ride the Phoenix took to the Hornet field in Andover New Hampshire.  Again the Football Gods blessed the day with great weather for the game.  Dozens of Phoenix fans travelled to see the Phoenix victory and watched a great offense battle a good defense.  The Hornets came out in the run formation racking up 235 yards on the ground behind seniors #15 DeVaughn Millington and #1 Everick Johnson.  Hornet Sophomore QB #2 Blake Joppy went 5 for 5 for 97 yards and 2 TD passes.   Contrary to the score the Phoenix D played long and hard, stopping the hornets on four, 3rd and long and a 4th and goal in the third quarter. Unfortunately an interception, a fumble on a kickoff return, a long punt return and a safety accounted for 25 of the 35 points scored by Proctor.  Mike Perez ’11, Scott Bartlett ‘12, and Zach Tolman ’12 had several unassisted tackles for losses each as did Captain Harry Smith.

Unlike the preceding week, the Phoenix offense sputtered managing less than 100 yards on the day for offense.  Next week it is north to Kent’s Hill School where the Phoenix plan on putting the offense from the Tilton game and combine it with the defense against Proctor to post their first victory of the season.
