Wheeler – 3
Hyde – 0
The blistering sun today took its toll on the Wolfpack as Hyde fell to a talented Wheeler soccer team 3-0. Wheeler opened the scoring just nine minutes into the contest as the Wolfpack was caught on its heels in the transition game, a trait that has plagued the team throughout the early part of its season. The Wolfpack recuperated for the remainder of the half and even began to apply some pressure to the Wheeler defense. The midfielder-forward tandem of Matan Peltier ’11 and Nathan Chesley ’12 kept Wheeler on its toes. In the final two minutes of the first frame, however, the Hyde defense was broken for two late goals to up Wheeler’s lead to 3-0 at halftime.
Showing its grittiness and tenacity, the Wolfpack would not surrender another goal. Strong defensive performances were turned in by goalkeeper Brian Sanz ’11, whose cat-like reflexes frustrated the Wheeler strikers, and central backs Ethan Thoms ’12 and Graham Davidson ’13 remained composed and disciplined throughout the day.
Standing at 1-2, the Wolfpack hosts SENE rival St. Thomas More on Monday, September 27 at 4pm on the Grant Field.
