Sixth Annual Parent Academy Returns to Hyde School

Bath, ME—This week, Hyde School will host its sixth annual Parent Academy. Four parents of current students will visit the school to share their wisdom about their individual interests and areas of expertise in the professional world. Hyde School students will have the opportunity to attend one of four sessions and, in the process, learn new skills they may be able to later take out into their own professional lives. The workshop will take place Wednesday ,February 17 through Friday, February 19.

The four areas of learning being offered by the visiting parents during the Parent Academy include Breast Cancer Awareness, Stock Market Boot Camp, Documentary and Independent Film Making, and Art Major to Airline Pilot.

Breast Cancer Awareness will be led by Gina Castronova, co-author of “Just a Lump in the Road…Reflections of Young Breast Cancer Survivors,” which will provide vital information about the disease that affects one in seven American women.

Bill Smith will lead the Stock Market Boot Camp. Smith is a 29-year veteran of the modern stock market and will introduce a variety of stocks and also educate about the risks and benefits associated with investing in the stock market.

Documentary and Independent Film Making will be presented by Richard Searls, and will consist of examining independent films from many genres. Searls is a prolific film maker and has received many awards during his long and distinguished career.

Dan Beishline will share his colorful career during the Art Major to Airline Pilot session. Beishline will talk about the professional path he followed, some of the bumps he met up with along the way, and how he eventually landed as an airline pilot.

“It is a wonderful opportunity for parents to come and interact with the students and provide some insight into real-life events and experiences, “states teacher Claire Grant. “The students embrace the opportunity to gain some valuable information no matter what the offering.”
