Standing before a crowd and signing a cappella is easy for some. They’ve worked at it, they’ve practiced, they have confidence and they have a voice! For others, this is not the case.
No matter how many times I stand up to sing, I get nervous. Regardless of how well I know the song or how much I’ve practiced it, I always get nervous. I am not the only one.
The tradition of the a cappella audition is the ultimate equalizer. We will all be up there. We, as in all students and all faculty members, come together in this experience. Good voice, bad voice, loud or off-key, it doesn’t matter as long as you put your heart into it. This is just another one of the many ‘challenges’ that make up Summer Challenge, one of the things that brings us together to create a community, one of the defining moments that characterize the Hyde experience.
