At Hyde, there is an elevated expectation for seniors to step up and take leadership in our community. While this may seem not so different from other schools here at Hyde we don’t just expect this from a few seniors, we expect ALL seniors and post-graduates to take leadership.
Last Wednesday evening, we welcomed the members of the class of 2025. and initiated a weekend of orienting and coming together as a class. There were many new faces from all over the country and the world and it was important to spend time getting to know each other, share bits and pieces of who we are, and begin to think more deeply about our strengths and challenges. Throughout orientation, the class of ‘25 engaged in Team Building activities to begin to step outside their comfort zone and build connections. They also began to have in-depth discussions with faculty and each other regarding their leadership in core aspects of our community as well as work with one another on working agreements for our community. As senior Julian ‘25 reflected on his senior orientation he said, “It was a great time to get to know all the new seniors and welcome them into the Hyde community. My own vision is to be an honest leader and give a good example of honesty to the younger students. When I had that as a younger student here, I was able to grow as a person.” We wrapped up senior orientation sharing our vision for our leadership for the year around the Schuler Circle.
On Friday morning, the senior class helped welcome the underclassmen and we spent the afternoon meeting members of our Discovery Groups and engaged in name games and icebreaker activities. We continued through the weekend getting to know the community through sessions centered around different aspects of Hyde and had the opportunity to kick off athletics and begin forming teams before their first competitions next week! The energy around campus is palpable and we are all excited for a wonderful school year!
