Reflections on Fall Family Weekend at Hyde School, by Ali Candy

This year’s Fall Family Weekend at Hyde was a wonderful celebration of community, growth, and connection. Returning to campus as a faculty member after being a student once offered a unique perspective on what makes this event so meaningful.

Throughout the weekend, families, students, and faculty came together to share in Hyde’s core values: Courage, Integrity, Leadership, Curiosity, and Concern. I had the opportunity to speak on the community panel about “Concern,” where we reflected on questions such as:

  • When I think about my learning attitude, what is a strength I have, and what is an obstacle that can get in my way?

  • Who has modeled curiosity in my life, and what did I learn from them?

  • How has curiosity played out in my life, and what have I learned from it?

Seeing students, families, and faculty engage so deeply in this discussion reminded me how central these principles are to Hyde’s character culture.

The Performing Arts Show was another highlight of the weekend. The courage and talent of our community were on full display, and the energy in the room reflected that spirit. It was inspiring to watch students step outside their comfort zones and express their growth through creativity.

Discovery Group seminars also stood out as a cornerstone of the weekend. The group I had the privilege of working with brought openness, vulnerability, and genuine authenticity to every conversation. Those discussions captured the essence of Hyde, a community where people listen, challenge, and support one another in equal measure.

The sports games rounded out the weekend with plenty of enthusiasm and school spirit. From the sidelines to the fields, Hyde families, students, and faculty alike demonstrated the teamwork, pride, and dedication that define Hyde’s approach to character and leadership.

Overall, Fall Family Weekend was a meaningful reminder of what makes Hyde such a special place. Whether reconnecting as alumni, engaging as parents, or learning as students, everyone contributed to an atmosphere of reflection, pride, and shared purpose.
