Music Performance at the Starry Night in downtown Bath

The Music Performance class was invited to participate in the Starry Night event at the Patten Free Library in downtown Bath. This is an annual community event held by the library which provides live music, refreshment, and a chance to connect with the local library.

Charles started the night with performing an original song, U Gotta Get It. Valentina sang Lay Me Down by Sam Smith. SJ performed Tori Kelly's version of Hallelujah. SJ then joined Maria, Carla, and Savannah to perform Snow Man by Sia and Feliz Navidad. Carla played piano on Snow Man and guitar on Feliz Navidad, which is a new instrument for her. Savannah played conga on Feliz Navidad, which is also new for her.

Roberto ended the night by playing the Interstellar Main Theme by Hans Zimmer on piano. Live sound was set up and operated by Quentin.

From the students:

Charles:

It was a great experience. Besides the super cold weather (lol), it was inspiring to see how many of the audience could resonate with each of our sounds – from my upbeat hip hop track about believing in yourself, to the winter-themed classics performed by the rest of the class. It was truly one of a kind.

Carla:

We had a great time performing with our classmates' Christmas songs. I really enjoyed the opportunity to play new instruments in a place like the library. Even if it was cold, it was worth it! We all loved helping the community!

Roberto:

It was a great experience for us to be able to support the Bath community and create an enjoyable environment for everybody during the holiday season. We as a team had some challenges, but we worked together and supported each other in order to break through them.

SJ:

It was really fun. We all had the opportunity to show off our talents to the public while working on our public performance skills. I really enjoyed performing for people, and it helped with the community.

Music Performance is a class of nearly 20 students, all with different interests in music, creative backgrounds, and life experiences. This was the first of many opportunities for the class to connect with the local community, artists, and mentors. The class will have more opportunities to share their talents and research with the Hyde and local communities throughout the year.
