The Media Production class took part in the second Academic Intensive at our Lennox Outdoor Learning Center, with a focus on capturing the unique experience of our outdoor classroom through both sound and video. Organized by Megan Mack-Nicholson, Director of Outdoor Education, the two-day trip provided students with the opportunity to explore, record, and reflect on the sights and sounds of nature in the foot hills of the Bigalow Preserve. Their goal was to document the natural landscape, the activities of outdoor learning, the immersive experience that the LOLC offers, and translate it into compelling media pieces.
After returning to campus, students began to edit their footage, carefully curating scenes to convey the essence of outdoor education. This intensive not only allowed students to apply technical skills in sound and video production but also offered hands-on experience in storytelling and environmental awareness. The project gave Media Production students in our STEAM department a chance to deepen their craft while building stronger connections with their classmates through shared challenges and creative exploration.
We look forward to more opportunities to take our digital arts class to our outdoor classroom spaces in the winter.
