Hyde Students Explore Summer Opportunities in Washington, DC

During the 3 week session between Fall Break and Winter Break, Hyde sophmores, juniors, and graduating seniors gathered under the Chandelier for an inspiring and forward-looking conversation focused on summer opportunities, leadership development, and life beyond Hyde. Students were joined by Marshall Bailly, Executive Director of Leadership Initiatives at Georgetown University, who visited campus to share exciting new pathways available through a growing partnership between Hyde School and Georgetown.

During the session, Marshall introduced students to Hyde’s opportunity to participate in our first cohort of internship placements through Georgetown’s Leadership Initiatives program. Hyde students will have 10 guaranteed internship spots, with the potential for additional placements based on interest and fit. These internships are designed to provide structured, real-world professional experience while helping students build skills that will serve them well in college and future careers.

The programs span a wide range of fields, including law, business, medicine, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and national security, allowing students to explore interests across multiple disciplines. In addition to hands-on work experience, the internships emphasize mentorship, accountability, and professional growth—values that strongly align with Hyde’s character-based approach to education.

Beyond internships, students also learned about the broader college-readiness support available through Leadership Initiatives. This includes guidance on college applications, feedback on personal essays, access to test-preparation resources, and information about scholarship opportunities. Together, these supports are designed to help students navigate the transition from high school to higher education with confidence and clarity.

The conversation sparked thoughtful questions and meaningful reflection as students considered how experiential learning might fit into their summer plans, academic interests, and long-term goals. Many left energized by the possibility of spending the summer in Washington, DC, gaining exposure to professional environments while continuing to develop as leaders.

Hyde School is proud to support students as they explore bold opportunities, build confidence, and prepare for what comes next.
