Hyde Receives gift to establish the Joseph W. Gauld Endowed Fund for Golf

Wolfpack Athletics is excited to announce its inaugural golf team! The new golf team at Hyde was made possible thanks to a generous gift from a Hyde Alumni Parent, in honor of our founder Joe Gauld. Joe was a golf enthusiast, who believed that the game provided many lessons in building character.

In the first season, the program will be recreational and focus on skill development, individual and group instruction, teamwork, and the rules of the game. The golfers will be led by Hyde faculty coaches Justin Siekierski and Jack Masselink and has partnered with nearby Mere Creek Golf Club to use as its home course and practice facility. This year’s team consists of eight student golfers with varying levels of experience. All have demonstrated a strong commitment to learning the game and are eager to improve their skills as the season progresses.

Will ’24 said “I am proud to be at the start of the Hyde golf legacy. I am learning how to improve my swing, how to hit with every kind of club, and the coaches are giving me good pointers from their expertise.”

Barry ’24 added “The golf team gives me the opportunity to step outside my comfort zone while giving me the chance to develop skills for my future.”

The golf program has certainly generated a buzz around campus! Good luck to all the student-athletes as they embark on their golf journey this fall.
