Hyde Hosts Wrestling and Shines Bright
Over the years, the Hyde community has gained a reputation for putting on big sporting contests, a yearly high-attendance Leadership Day, and other community events. We take on such experiences because, in executing them, everyone comes away with important learning.

This past week, we hosted the Northern New England Wrestling Tournament, where twelve teams from around the northeast gathered to compete for individual and team honors. This event was a showcase for Hyde school culture.

As our Athletic Director, Stefan Jensen said, "You cannot pull off an event like this unless you have all hands on deck, and this is what makes our school so special." Faculty, staff, and students all mobilized to run an excellent event while also supporting our own wrestlers. Students could be seen working the scoring tables and the concession stand as well as running the media and the parking, and of course, they cheered on the seven Hyde boys and the one girl who were wrestling that day.

At the Monday community meeting, we asked the students to share what they learned from watching our wrestlers. These are some of their comments:

"You showed amazing courage out there and wrestled off your back."
"You carried yourself with such class when you won the match."
"This is your first year wrestling, and you have made awesome progress!"

As Head of School, I was proud of all of our wrestlers and our entire school for showing up and running an excellent event. There are always comments from other school coaches, administrators, and families seeing Hyde in action. As one Administrator from a large school said, "What happens here with your student body is an example to all of us. I have never seen an event run this well."

Hyde is all about the individual quest and community support. The intersection between these two is what creates Hyde's special brand.
