From the head

As we wrap up fall term exams and head home for family time, we must acknowledge this incredible fall term. The students, faculty, and staff consistently showed up to discover their best selves and be there for each other. While we certainly faced challenges and, at times, had to fight through adversity, we were able to come together to create a synergy that led to the following:

  • Classroom Learning - Our students met higher academic standards than in previous years and set a tone for their own learning and for helping others through peer tutoring, study groups, and mutual encouragement.
  • Public Speaking - While it was not always a Saturday morning favorite, students embraced their public speaking in our school-wide class and cheered the loudest when they recognized a person getting out of their comfort zone.
  • MAISAD SWEEP - A first for Hyde School! Men's Cross-Country, Men's JV Soccer, Women's Varsity Soccer, and Men's Varsity Soccer all took top honors in the MAISAD championships.
  • Family Weekend and Parenting Meetings - Families came to Hyde, and we experienced parents growing alongside their students in so many inspiring ways.
  • Academic Intensives at the North Campus - Several academic classes took their learning to a new level by traveling up north and integrating concepts learned in a classroom into a larger natural setting.
  • Maine State Leadership Day - We welcomed over 1,300 students from around the state to explore the connection between setting a high vision and finding the leader within each of us.
  • Discovery Group Cup - On many Friday nights, we gathered to compete as Discovery Groups in sports, Bingo, karaoke, and other activities.
  • College Planning and Acceptances - Up on the second floor of the mansion, seniors have worked hard every day to plan for their futures. Some early acceptances have come in--which is always an exciting moment!
  • School Meetings, Reflection Circles,&  Discovery Group Meetings - We spent time reflecting on our actions through sharing our thoughts, feelings, and vision during some inspiring meetings this fall.
  • New England Soccer Class D Champions - The Men's Varsity Soccer team lived up to their high expectations and brought home a New England title. We are so proud of them!

As an African Proverb states, "Those who want to go fast, go alone. Those who want to go far, go together."

It has been an incredible Fall term, and we are just getting started! To everyone, enjoy a much-needed break and appreciate the family you have for you have been given much.
