Each week, the school gathers for a school meeting. Topics range from issues facing us in our world to examining our own character and sharing meaningful thoughts with each other. While some meetings end up being more special than others, it is the commitment to have ongoing, schoolwide dialogue that is important to the Hyde community learning culture.
Recently, we asked everyone to consider Hyde's Words and Principles. These are:
With the Words and Principles as our guides, each student and faculty member stood up to receive one positive comment about some growth or a defining moment they had this fall.
It was truly awesome to see the growth that has been made in this term. Some of the comments included:
"You are in a new place this year and have found the courage to become a leader in the school."
"Your leadership on the soccer field and all the field has set an example for all of us."
"Your concern for others in the dorm has been exemplary. I know that I can count on you."
"You showed a lot of humility this fall when you faced adversity, let others help you, and did not let it get you down."
"You have been a teacher who I both respect and also really like."
It was a powerful meeting and, as a student said in the wrap-up, "We learned today that sometimes others can see us and our growth in ways that we cannot always see."
