Student Songwriter Showcase Celebrates 14th Year

Songwriter's Workshop

Students work with music professionals at the Hyde School to hone their songwriting skills

For the fourteenth consecutive year, Hyde School in Bath, Maine, is hosting a five-day music workshop, beginning on February 12 through Saturday, February 16. The Songwriter Workshop, designed for aspiring musicians interested in perfecting their musical craft in writing and producing, will be led by a group of professionals in the music industry who are volunteering their time to work with students, including Mark Radcliffe and Lisa Redfern. The weeklong workshop will culminate in a performance on Saturday, February 16, at 7 PM at Frontier in Brunswick. The public is welcome and can purchase tickets in advance for $10 at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4054564.

Students from Hyde will be performing as well as local area students who participate in the workshop. The students will perform original pieces they have composed under the guidance of facilitators. The students will be utilizing a state-of-the-art recording studio at the Hyde School remodeled thanks to the generosity of Grammy-winning recording artist and father of a Hyde graduate, Michael McDonald. The renovated studio space provides the opportunity for students to make professional quality records of their music.

Hyde music director Matt Newberg says, “We are tremendously lucky at Hyde to have such a wealth of talent in our community that allows us to have people with such amazing gifts who come back and give their time and talents to our students. And, as always, we look forward to having the students perform their original songs to an audience and it will be great to have the showcase at Frontier in Brunswick.”
