Tough Loss for Boys JV Soccer vs Wiscasset, 2-3

September 9, 2017

Hyde School: 2 — Wiscasset: 3

This past Saturday the Wolfpack Boys JV Soccer Team hosted Wiscasset in their 2017 home opener. In a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat the boys once again showed a never give up attitude and drastic improvement from the season opener at Chops Point.

Both teams began the game putting on a stellar defensive performance. It was not until the final seconds of the opening half when the Pack opened up the scoring with a beautifully set up goal from Justin Podell ‘18 assisted by Bobby Carter ‘19, a pair that would create numerous more scoring opportunities as the game played out. Earlier in the second half this dynamic duo struck again with Podell setting up Carter for the strike to take a 2-0 lead. While the Wolfpack boys continued to dominate time of possession and scoring opportunities for the remainder of the game, Wiscasset was able to find the back of the net three times before the clock hit 0:00.

Other key performances came from Eli Widener ‘20 as the vocal leader of the defense and Laque Howard ‘20 who stepped into goal for the first time in his young soccer career after an injury to keeper Lucas McCabe midway through the first half.

While the Wolfpack Boys did not come out on top of the scoreboard the game was a major step in the right direction with major improvements on both sides of the ball. The squad takes the pitch next at home this Friday (September 15) at 4:00pm as they look to avenge their defeat vs Seacoast.
