Season Outlook for Wolfpack Girls Varsity Soccer

Hyde Wolfpack
Bath, Maine
2017 Girls Varsity Soccer

After an energetic three-day pre-season, the 2017 varsity squad was announced. The roster is 20 players strong and includes both talented returners as well as newcomers. There are 10 seniors, 2 juniors and 2 sophomores returning to the team. The remaining 6 players, all underclassmen, are brand new and bring welcomed skill and enthusiasm. In addition to strong field players, the ‘pack is armed with 2 goalkeepers, both of whom are bringing fire to the box.
The team has begun tuning up for an exciting season. The chemistry is solid and they have a strong work ethic during practices. With an experienced center back, a flat back four is going to be enlisted to protect the backfield, a formation that hasn’t been seen in the girl’s program for several years. There is strength throughout the field but particularly in the center mid and striker positions. The team will remain offensively focused trying to generate scoring opportunities through forward pressure. Transitions will be quick and the team will move aggressively. The coaches are optimistic and feel confident that if the team remains focused they will have a successful season.
The Wolfpack opens its season with Gould Academy at home. Gould has been a tough competitor in recent years, notching four MAISAD Championships as well as three post season NEPSAC tournament invites. Hyde’s last meeting with Gould resulted in a close 2-0 loss and the team looks forward to the upcoming match.
