Hyde School: 10 – Dublin School: 0
Boys Varsity Lacrosse traveled to a neutral site in Epping, NH to play Dublin for the first game of the 2016 season. The game was played on turf in sunny, but cold, conditions.
The Phoenix boys cruised to their first victory in their defense of their MAISAD championship. Hyde came off the bus looking ready to play, putting in great effort and getting on the board quickly thanks to the first of a game-high three goals by captain Shemar Jack ‘16. Hyde would find the back of the net six more times before the end of the first half thanks to a balanced offensive attack. Leading the way in points for the game was Greg Kidger ‘17 (3g, 1a), with captain Aidan Bristow ‘16 (1g), James Kirby ‘17 (1g, 2a), Thompson Upham-Davis ‘16 (1g), and Wallace Ogens ‘17 (1g) chipping in as well.
Defensively, the Phoenix completed the first shutout by a Hyde team in more than a decade thanks to the stellar play and leadership of Captain Jesse Higgins ‘16 (team-high 8gb), Nick Mortazavi ‘16, and goalkeeper McGehee Porter ‘17 (9 saves). Noteworthy play came from Jake Durkin ‘16 at the faceoff x, as well as Brandon Nelson ‘16, Connor Foye ‘18, and Scott O’Brien ‘17 in the midfield.
In the end, this was a great team win to start the season, though the boys have little time to enjoy the win before returning to action. We will play our home opener on the turf tomorrow (April 7th) against Mt. Ararat at 4:00pm.
