2011 Dates:  August 21 – August 30

Your successful year at Hyde begins with August Orientation.  This nine-day experience will give students a chance to get ready for the academic and athletic challenges ahead that make life at Hyde so special.  August Orientation is required for all new students starting classes in the fall.

August Orientation will help students begin to make friends, find mentors, navigate their new surroundings, and have fun while stepping up to the exciting challenges they’ll face as engaged Hyde learners. It’s the perfect way to say goodbye to summer and kick off a successful year at Hyde.

Sample Daily Schedule:

6:30 a.m.:  Rise and shine!

7:00 a.m.:  Dorm Duties.

7:30 a.m.: Omelet, bacon, fruit and juice served by the amazing Hyde kitchen crew.

8:00 a.m.: Help on the academic wing.  Each student is assigned a campus job.

9:00 a.m.: Academic Block.  Meet with your History teacher to discuss expectations and goals for the coming year.

10:00 a.m.: Morning meeting.  Learn about Hyde’s dynamic peer culture from the Head of School and current seniors.

11:30 a.m.:  Free time!  Play badminton in the Sunken Garden, work out, talk to friends, or play piano in the Auditorium.  Free time is hard to come by at boarding school, so enjoy it whenever you get the chance…

12:00 a.m.: Lunch.  Chicken Caesar salad and fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies.

1:00 p.m.: Discovery Group.  Meet your advisor and other students in your group to talk about the day’s topic for discovery.

3:00 p.m.: Athletics.  Everyone’s an athlete at Hyde.  Meet with our strength and fitness coordinator to talk about your skills, strength conditioning, and goals for your year in sports.  Practice with your new team.

5:30 p.m.:  Dinner, family-style.  Enjoy pasta, salad, bread, and great conversation.

7:00 p.m.:  Performing Arts.  Begin to practice for fall auditions—everyone at Hyde participates!

8:00 p.m.: Study Hall.  Get ready for a year of reading, writing, critical thinking, research, analysis, and everything else you’ll need for the best college applications possible.

9:30 p.m.:  Hang out with friends from all over the country.

10:00 p.m.:  Dorm check-in, and get ready for another big day!
