Academic Onward

Academic Onward offers academic support, credit and skills training in a character-centered learning environment. This program is tailored to the individual academic needs of each student. Hyde faculty help students understand and better utilize their learning styles, while addressing the obstacles that interfere with strong scholastic performance.

Students receive support and guidance that help them:

  • Complete and/or master specific subjects
  • Strengthen organizational and study skills
  • Build positive homework habits
  • Develop intellectual curiosity

Specific services include: Writing Enhancement, Math Enhancement, Guided Study Hall, SAT/PSAT Prep Classes, One-on-one Tutoring. Academic credit will be evaluated and credited on a case-by-case basis. Are you looking to gain an edge in the classroom? INQUIRE TODAY

DAILY SCHEDULE

  • 7:30 AM: “It’s a beautiful mornin’…I think I’ll go outside awhile…” (The Rascals)
    Wake-Up
  • 8:00 AM:“Don’t you forget about me…don’t don’t don’t don’t….” (Theme from The Breakfast Club—Keith Forsey & Steve Schiff)
    Breakfast: French toast with eggs, cereal and fruit
  • 8:50 AM:“Takin’ care of business and workin’ overtime.” (BTO)
    Campus Jobs: All students are assigned a campus job.
  • 9:00 AM: “Meet me in the morning 56th and Wabasha; Honey we could be in Kansas by time the snow begins to thaw.” ( Bob Dylan)
    Morning Assembly: “leader of the day” runs the meeting, opening up the day with a quote and short journaling exercise. Plans are reviewed and students sign up for activities.

    Meet with your academic advisor, review academic goals, progress made and assess troubled areas that need attention

    Lunch: Eating family style, taco boats, salad bar and fresh-baked chocolate cookies
  • 12:35 PM: “Workin’ your fingers right down to the bone, and the guy behind you won’t leave you alone (Chuck Berry)
    Dish Crew! Work with five other students to clean up from lunch
  • 1:00 PM:“Sittin’ on the dock of the bay wastin’ time.” (Otis Redding)
    Break: Run around, throw the Frisbee, burn off some of your lunch
  • 1:15 PM: “I got a lot of work to do; got to give you back your point of view.” (Alison Moorer)

  • Boston trip to Quincy Market and museums, where your curiosity will be met with the energy and excitement of Beantown.
  • Day trips to the beach, where three rivers meet the Atlantic and offer you, in their profound beauty, the meaning of true depth.
  • High- and low-ropes course, where thrill, excitement, and butterflies in your stomach meet, shake hands, and motivate you to reach beyond your grasp.
  • Day hike and canoe trip, where you and your friends learn about yourselves and your ability to lead through helping others.
  • Attend local sporting events, where your group will be known widely for sportsmanship and spirit and, after the game, you’ll see janitors vying for clean-up of your area of the gym.
