Bath: JV LAX drops # 2 to Phillips Exeter

Team:   Men’s Future Varsity Lacrosse

Date:   April 7, 2012

Score:  Hyde:  0    Phillips Exeter Academy: 12

Highlights:

The first half saw the Phoenix field tilted towards their defensive zone as the Big Red of Phillips Exeter put 18 shots on net and scored on 10, while the Phoenix did not once test the keeper in the first half.  GBWG is still true as the Big Red scooped up 18 contested Ground Balls to the Phoenix 4 in the opening frames of the game.

Halftime: Exeter 10 – Hyde zero.  Most heads were up as drills, skills and spills from practice clicked in to the game scenario.

Second half:  Hyde 13 ground balls Exeter: 10.  Exeter shots on net: 7 – Hyde: 1.

It’s a start.   The defense anchored by Harry Hu ’12 and Andrew Martz ’14 stiffened while midfielders Mike McInerney ’13, Max Zerrudo-Turgeon ’15 and Hans XU ’13 scooped up ground balls with Max getting the only shot off in the process. Bobby Elliot ’15 stood tall in his first game in net, gaining confidence while Max Kaplan ’14 gained poise in controlling the ball at attack.

It was a growth game.  However, one player stood out with his hustle, attention to coaching, initiating {defensive} action on the field.  For his heart and hustle Marley Dutton ’14 was awarded the FV Dirty Ball for the game.
